Legal Representation: Guardianship and conservatorship proceedings often require legal expertise to navigate the complex legal requirements and court processes. Legal services include petitioning the court for guardianship or conservatorship, representing the interests of the individual in court hearings, and ensuring compliance with legal obligations.
Assessment and Evaluation: Professional assessment and evaluation may be necessary to determine the individual's capacity to make decisions regarding their personal care, finances, and other aspects of life. This evaluation helps establish the need for guardianship or conservatorship and identifies the level of support required.
Guardianship and Conservatorship Management: Once appointed, guardians and conservators are responsible for managing various aspects of the individual's life, including healthcare decisions, financial management, housing arrangements, and daily living needs. Services may include creating care plans, coordinating medical appointments, managing finances, and advocating for the individual's best interests.
Financial Management: Conservators are often tasked with managing the individual's financial affairs, which may involve budgeting, bill payment, asset management, investment decisions, and tax preparation. Professional financial management services help ensure that the individual's financial resources are properly managed and protected.
Care Coordination and Advocacy: Guardians and conservators play a vital role in coordinating care services and advocating for the individual's rights and preferences. This includes coordinating medical care, accessing community resources and support services, advocating for appropriate accommodations, and ensuring that the individual's needs are met in various settings.
Court Reporting and Compliance: Guardians and conservators are required to comply with court orders, file regular reports with the court, and maintain accurate records of their actions and decisions on behalf of the individual. Professional services help ensure compliance with legal requirements and facilitate communication with the court.
Estate Planning and Long-Term Planning: Guardianship and conservatorship often intersect with estate planning considerations. Services may include assisting with the development of estate plans, establishing trusts, drafting wills, and planning for the individual's long-term care needs and financial security.
